Sew a handkerchief hem
I'm here to talk about the narrow hem! When designing the Iris dress, I wondered what finish to choose for the ruffles in versions B and C! I first sewed my prototype with a classic hem, but I found this finish a little too "coarse"; I wanted something finer, lighter. So I decided to finish the Iris ruffles with a narrow hem!
What is a narrow hem? (And no, it's not a hem you can blow your nose in! Even if that would have been useful during my husband's speech ;) ) It's a very fine hem that we use for finishing on very thin fabrics or for finishing ruffles, frills, as in the case of the Iris dress!
So, let's get started!
First, press a first fold wrong side to wrong side, 1 cm from the edge (or less, depending on the pattern instructions).

Then, sew as close as possible to the folded edge (1 to 2 mm).

Then, cut off the excess seam allowance as close as possible to this seam (1 to 2 mm).

Next, press a second fold along the cut edge.

Finally, sew a second seam to secure the hem. Stitch over the first seam.

And there you have it, your narrow hem is complete!
