Lilac dress pattern hack
Today I'm going to present to you a favorite hack!
This is a hack of the Lilac dress (as the title suggests)!
To tell you the truth, I've had this idea in mind for almost a year, but since I often have 1000 ideas in mind...well, you have to make choices, review your priorities! Besides, I also had the fabric for 1 year! He was quietly waiting in my closet for the moment when I would take care of him!
Well, that's it! My fabric went under the machine, I hacked the Lilac pattern! And I am so happy with the result! I love it, I love it, I love it!
Come on, I’ll show you!

Do you also want a long version of Lilas? So I tell you everything!
How to make your long Lilac dress?
To hack your Lilac dress in a long version, you must start by sewing your “classic” Lilac dress without hemming.
Put on your dress and measure the length to add. Get help with measuring so that it is as accurate as possible. Add 3 cm to this measurement (1 cm for the seam and 2 cm for the hem). For my dress, I did not need to add the 2 cm hem because my fabric is embroidered along the length.
Cut 2 rectangles of fabric (one for the front, one for the back) to the following dimensions: (measured length + 3 cm) x 1 m
You can take rectangles of more than one meter if you want more gathers.
Overcast the sides of the rectangles. Sew the two rectangles right sides together from the sides and open the seams with an iron.
Side seam.
For the rest you have two possibilities: either you make a ruffle with a head (like on my dress) or you do a classic seam.
- Sew a head ruffle:
Start by overcasting the bottom of the already sewn short dress.
Make the finishing seam of the top edge of the piece to be added (the ruffle) with a rolled hem or a tight zigzag stitch.
Sew two gather lines (wide straight stitches and reduced upper thread tension) 0.5 and 1.5 cm from the edge.
Mark the front and back middles. Gather the ruffle by pulling the threads on the right side, until it is the size of the bottom of the short dress.
Place the ruffle on the bottom of the dress, right side of the dress against the wrong side of the ruffle . Distribute the gathers. Pin carefully using the center marks on the back, front and sides.
Sew between the two gather lines (approximately 1 cm from the edge). And remove the gather lines.
Sewing the steering wheel to the head.
- Classic tailoring
In the case of classic sewing, first sew the two gather lines (wide straight stitches and reduced upper thread tension) 0.5 and 1.5 cm from the edge.
Mark the front and back middles. Gather the ruffle by pulling the threads on the wrong side, until it is the size of the bottom of the short dress.
Place the ruffle on the bottom of the dress, right sides together . Distribute the gathers. Pin carefully using the center back, center front and side marks.
Sew between the two gather lines (approximately 1 cm from the edge). And remove the gather lines.
Finally, overcast the seam allowances together.
- Finishing
In both cases, finish by sewing a hem: make a first fold (wrong side to wrong side) of 1 cm with an iron, then a second which you will pin all along. Sew 8mm from the edge.
And here is your Lilac long version, perfect for summer temperatures :)
