Sewing level
The Chantal pattern is for intermediate sewers. It's a fairly easy pair of trousers/shorts to sew because it fastens with elastic.- Sew a trouser waistband (without a closure),
- Insert elastic into a casing,
- Attach bias binding,
- Sew and assemble patch pockets,
- Sew and assemble side pockets (patch pockets with a rounded pleat),
- Sew and assemble flaps,
- Sew and assemble belt loops,

- Add 20 cm (8 inches) of fabric for the tie belt.

Elastic, 3 to 4 cm (1.2 to 1.6 inches) wide:
- for the waist: 30 to 50 cm (12 to 20 inches) depending on your size (allow approximately 1/2 waist circumference to be trimmed when attaching).
- for tapered ankles: 45 to 55 cm (18 to 22 inches) depending on your ankle circumference (= (ankle circumference + 3 cm (1.2 inches)) x 2 (because 2 ankles)).
- 4 buttons (optional) for the side pocket version.
- A strip of fusible interfacing, approximately 60cm x 10cm (24 x 4 inches).

Cut your fabric following the pattern outlines. You do not need to add any seam allowance as it is already included. For your information: seam allowances are 1 cm and hems are 2 cm. For technical reasons, these measurements may vary, but in that case, I will let you know 😊

Perfectly mark out the pattern pieces; placed next to each other, they do not overlap.
